non-www Checker
Use the non-www checker to see whether your website is correctly set up to forward non-www requests.
Search engines have been known to recognise a non-www version of a website as a duplication of an existing www.
version and even penalise a website for this. The worst culprit for this is Google, however, this is believed to
have been resolved however it has yet to be confirmed.
In real terms the non www is the true root domain and www is really a sub domain but the web has
developed using www and so all non www must be set up with the correct forwarding to avoid any possibilty
of page/content duplication.
Because there has yet to be confirmation that this issue has been resolved, here at High Position we still
recommend that for any potentially harmful non-www domains they are correctly forwarded to their www alias
(or visa versa).
Read our 301 redirect tutorial for IIS 6.0 to learn to implement this yourself.
